Skylar Tang is a trumpeter, composer, and bandleader from the San Francisco Bay Area whose artistry has drawn comparisons to jazz's most revered voices - at just nineteen years old. Pursuing dual studies in History and Jazz Performance at Columbia University and The Juilliard School, Tang brings rare intellectual depth and emotional intelligence to every performance.
She has shared the stage with legends including Joshua Redman, DeeDee Bridgewater, Sean Jones, and Rufus Reid, and was featured on Redman's acclaimed album *Words Fall Short*. Her performance credits include Carnegie Hall, Dizzy's Club, the Kennedy Center, SFJAZZ, Davies Symphony Hall, and the Monterey Jazz Festival. Internationally, she has toured Europe and South Africa with Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra Jazz Band and completed a two-month residency at Expo 2025 Osaka.
In 2022, Tang won the Essentially Ellington Student Composition/Arranging Contest and conducted her original work "Kaleidoscope" with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
