In October of 2017, drummer and educator Nate Smith worked with students from our Music Lab during a multi-day residency. Smith, who also performed in our Jazz Club later that week, worked as producer, interacting closely with students on their original compositions, yielding three songs to be released in the summer of 2018.
These opportunities to pair world class musicians with students is what make our Music Lab and Arts Education programs unique. Whether these students go on to pursue careers in music or not, the skills acquired through programs like these will equip them with the leadership skills needed for success.
Our Music Lab programs teach technology for music composition and build skills in engineering and recording as well as foster experimentation and creativity. These valuable skills play an important role throughout our students’ entire education by enhancing their studies in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM).
