REGISTER FOR FREE

Students aged 13-22 who have an interest in songwriting, music production, and creative collaboration are encouraged to register for the free 3-day workshop to learn more about the music industry and turning their passions into a career from Almira Zaky, R&B recording artist and a fellow Virginia native.

The interactive songwriting workshop will include full programming each day, with an emphasis on teaching the students how to write an original song from scratch, recording the written song using the industry-standard software ProTools, all while building their self confidence as they collaborate with like-minded peers. Students are encouraged to bring a journal to document their thoughts and emotions during their workshop experience. Students are also invited to perform the original song on Friday evening at 7:30 PM alongside Almira at the Music Lab: Student Bands Live event. The potential final song that is recorded, mixed, and mastered would be released in the following months as a feature song under Almira Zaky’s discography, which is an incredibly unique opportunity for the students. Beatclub, the music platform created by Timbaland, is also sponsoring the workshop to provide the attendees with special access to their online Creator Tools through their partnership with Soundware.

Workshop will be held at the Music Lab:

Live Performance will be held at The Spot on Kirk:

ABOUT ALIMIRA ZAKY:

Almira Zaky is an Indonesian-American R&B/Pop recording artist, songwriter, and performer from Virginia. Almira began her journey as a vocalist at a young age and could be seen performing for thousands all around the DMV region. She went on to attend Virginia Commonwealth University where she gained experience in the music industry by booking acts like Travis Scott & Tory Lanez at just 19-years-old. Almira’s friends coined a new nickname for her, “Boss Lady”, because she hopes to inspire her fans to become the boss of their own life no matter where they are from. In early 2022, Almira was casted to represent her home state of Virginia on the NBC TV Show "American Song Contest". Almira released her single "Over You" in partnership with Atlantic Records for the show and her performance garnered over 505k views in 7 days, receiving support from fans worldwide, especially from Asia. In 2023, Almira delivered a TEDx Talk at Johns Hopkins University based off of turning her pain into purpose and power, and made her festival debut performing at Pharrell Williams' "Something in the Water" music festival.

She describes her sound as modern R&B with pop-infused melodies, and 90’s/2000’s rhythmic production. With an unapologetically-herself personality, outspoken lyrical skill, commanding vocal range, and captivating stage presence, she is sure to continue winning over the hearts of many as she bridges the gap between her two worlds; her Indonesian heritage and American upbringing.
