Join Roanoke Ballet Theatre for the timeless ballet classic Giselle on Saturday, June 10 at 2pm & 7pm. Behold plunging arabesques and refined épaulement in a story of rich versus poor, life and death, and unrequited love. Giselle is the story of a peasant girl who falls for a nobleman disguised as a peasant and dies of a broken heart, only to be born again in death through her love for him.
Roanoke Ballet Theatre’s Professional Ballet Company and members of the school perform the tragic and romantic story of Giselle, who has a weak heart but loves to dance. Her quest for love leads to her demise. Yet will it still triumph in a dark and supernatural world?
Giselle enchants in Act I with the local townspeople in joyous movement, and with the mournful beauty of the Wilis in Act II, led by their queen, Myrtha.
“Giselle is a ballet that can be enjoyed on many different levels. It’s one of the great story ballets, and we invite Roanoke to be transported into this world, our world. We think you can also take away a lesson or two from the story that the dancing of our company and students will tell,” says Sandra Meythaler, Executive Director of the Roanoke Ballet Theatre.
