What age do you have to be to enroll at the Music Lab? The Music Lab is geared toward youth and students in 6th-12th grade. Lessons, however, are not restricted by age. We have both very young students and adults that take lessons here. Also, our facility is available to the public for commercial recording sessions.
Do you offer private instruction or instrument lessons? Yes. Click HERE or on the "Lessons" button on the Music Lab homepage and you will see our list of resident instructors that teach various instruments. You are welcome to contact them directly to arrange for lessons.
What do you offer beyond lessons? Music business and technology instruction, special clinics and workshops, master classes, guest visits and lectures, recording services, training on and access to professional recording equipment, rehearsal space, and exposure to and the ability to connect with musicians of varied backgrounds and talents.
What type of gear do you have? We have loads of great gear: the latest versions of Pro Tools and Logic; a Euphonix MC Control & Mix system; Peluso, AKG, Earthworks, Sennheiser, Shure, and Neumann mics; Universal Audio, API, and A-Designs preamps; M-Audio controllers; JBL, Mackie and M-Audio reference monitors; Mac Pros, iMacs and MacBooks; a Nord Electro and Hammond B3 with Leslie cabinet; Eden and Ampeg bass rigs; Taye and Gretsch maple drum kits; Bosphorus cymbals; Vic Firth sticks; Warwick and G&L basses; PRS and Fender guitars; Mesa Boogie and Marshall amplifiers; Yamaha and Wurlitzer upright pianos, and close access to a 9-foot Steinway Grand.
Where is the Music Lab located? The Music Lab is on the third floor of Jefferson Center at 541 Luck Avenue Suite 325 Roanoke, VA
What are the hours of operation? Spring & Fall Semester hours are 3:00-7:00 PM Monday through Friday. Summer Semester hours are 1:30-7:00 PM Monday through Friday. The lab also operates as a commercial recording studio before and after lab hours and on the weekends.
How much does it cost to enroll for the 6th-12th grade program? $45 for a single semester; $80 for 2 consecutive semesters; $105 for 3 consecutive semesters. PAY ONLINE.
Do you offer any financial assistance or scholarships? Every applicant in the 6th-12th grade program has the ability to apply for financial assistance and scholarships.
How much do you charge for recording services if I want to book a professional recording session? $50 per hour.
