Solazo Latin American music and culture With members hailing from Chile and Argentina, Solazo presents a blend of soulful ballads, dance music and original tunes from Spain and Central and South America. In residence in Virginia for several years, the group’s concerts have been enthusiastically received by audiences at schools, festivals, and venues ranging from the Lyric Theater in Blacksburg to the Kennedy Center and the National Geographic Museum. The goal of Solazo’s educational program is to foster an understanding of traditional Latin American music, with special emphasis on specific Latin rhythms and a wide array of unusual instruments. A study guide, which focuses on the geography, history, culture and arts of each country, as well as maps and drawings of the musical instruments, is available upon request.
