The 7th Annual Best of Both Worlds Dance & Step Competition
“Regional teams compete for $1,000 and a trophy the size of a child”

The 7th Annual Best of Both Worlds Dance and Step Competition visits Jefferson Center's Shaftman Performance Hall Saturday, February 23rd to showcase more than 10 of some of the most entertaining and explosive dance and step teams throughout the region.

These teams will compete for $1,000 in cash and a trophy as tall as a child.  The judges are always former step team performers and experienced dancers.  Dance Crews and Step Teams compete separately awarding the top dance and step teams, respectively.

If you are not familiar with step competitions then it is advised that you rent the blockbuster hit, "Stomp the Yard" and for dance competitions the movie "You Got Served".  These movie hits will provide you with a sample of the energy and intensity one should expect to experience as these talented teams compete on stage.

In the December show in Charlottesville, the AkadeMix Dance Team (University of Virginia) had taken home the trophy and cash as the best dance team and the Capital Ques (Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc) Step Team had taken the cash as the best step team.

Jefferson Center was chosen as the host venue for the Best of Both Worlds Dance & Step Competition because of its historical value, convenient location, and the overall mission of the theater to serve the diverse communities of Roanoke.  Event promoter, Ty Cooper, has promoted this event for six consecutive years and states that it has found its new home at Jefferson Center.  “It’s a cultural honor to showcase this event in front of a diverse audience where people are provided the opportunity to learn about another group’s history, which is the greatest joy of producing events”, states Cooper.

Doors of the Jefferson Center opens at 3:00 p.m. and show-time begins at 3:30 p.m.  Tickets are only $13.  Tickets are on sale now!
