Jefferson Center

A message from Victoria Overstreet Wray - JHS Alumni Council Co-chair

Jefferson is not just a building of bricks and mortar. It is home to seventeen non-profit organizations that contribute to the health and well-being of the Roanoke Valley. From the Virginia Education Association to TAP Head Start, from the Symphony to the police academy, this majestic building reaches out to our community to better the lives of the citizens of the Roanoke Valley.

I count it a true blessing to have been one of the more than 19,000 graduates of Jefferson Senior High School. Since Jefferson closed as a high school in 1975 our legacy as a student body is now limited to those who passed through these wide aged halls, but we have a unique opportunity as alumni to leave a legacy for future generations of the Roanoke Valley in the contributions of the Jefferson Center. It is up to each of us to continue the magic, to keep this important part of our history and our hearts alive and well for our community.

In order for Jefferson to continue to contribute to the Valley, we need to see that she is kept in top shape, active and vital. Magicians have always prevailed. Let each of us take an active part in seeing that our beloved high school prevails and our legacy grows as an acorn to an oak.
